ABOUT: ENRIQUE MASTRAPA AKA ABSTRK
Born and raised in Miami, Enrique Mastrapa, ABSTRK, is a Cuban American artist whose family immigrated to the United States in the 1960s during the Pedro Pan and Freedom Flights exiles.
With a background in both graffiti and traditional fine art, ABSTRK’s work has been praised for its kinetic movement and bold colors. His work consists of forms pulled off of outlines and letter structure. It is diverse in the subject matter at the same time always relative to his style-isms and shapes. His creations have been featured on canvases at leading art institutions as well as on outdoor walls throughout America and the Caribbean.
"The collection is inspired by my environment, my travels," said ABSTRK. "My artwork collaged onto the garments allows my work to live and move in spaces other than a stationary wall, canvas, or freight train. Some of my patterns are abstract interpretations of nature, but can also be broken down and reassembled into letters with movement. This is what destroy and rebuild means to me, taking apart something and putting it back together on a different medium or surface...taking work created on a wall and chopping it up into a pattern for a jacket, rebuilding it."
